To the north of the Ile de Ré, don’t miss the famous Phare des Baleines (Whale lighthouse), with its 257 steps offering a panoramic view all the way to the Vendée coast. The salt marshes: left fallow in the 80s, many of these marshes have been brought back into use by young sauniers in recent years.
